Recognised for his ‘flair for orchestral writing’ (Daniel Kidane), Josh Clark is an up-and-coming composer, orchestrator, conductor, songwriter and French horn player, passionate about creating new yet relatable music that is easily accessible to all people. Josh captivates his listeners with a unique touch in harmony and texture, writing melodies that feel like we always knew them.
In demand to write concert music, songs and film music alike. As a composer, he has had pieces performed in the Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Southampton Guildhall, Worcester Cathedral, and RCM’s Performance Hall, to mention a few. Alongside youth orchestras, he has worked with the RIOT ensemble, the Winchester Chamber Orchestra, and renowned soloists such as Anne Deneholm and Joseph Spooner.
Josh has received several awards, to mention a few. He has been a Carol Cuino Cup holder (2023), awarded by the ex-mayor of Southampton. He has been a Martin Reed Foundation award holder (2023), an ORA singers young composer (2024). He has also received the runner-up award in both RCMJD’s Joan Weller competition(2024), and the ORA Young Composers Showcase (2024). More recently, he has had a sound installation played at Kew Gardens for their ‘Festival of Blossom’.
Josh is studying at the RCM, where he is being instructed in composition by Dierdre Gribbin, in film scoring by Kate Simko, and tutored on the French Horn by John Thurgood.
You can find his music on spotify and Instagram. As a songwriter Josh writes and produces in an exciting range of genres, showing his flexibility. He has written R&B tracks, worship music and is a confident singer-songwriter. He hopes to release an album over the summer.
As a French horn player, Josh plays regularly with the University of London Symphony Orchestra, the Charity Symphony Orchestra, and the All Souls Orchestra. He has performed in the Royal Albert Hall, the RAM’s Duke’s Hall, and the Birmingham Symphony Hall. He is also ‘Director of Classical Music’ at two churches: St Stevens (Twickenham) and St James (Southampton), where he has the pleasure of arranging and conducting their orchestras and choirs every year.
Josh is a Clifton Parker Award Holder at the RCM, and has previously been supported by Victor Dahdaleh and the estate of Humphery Searle.
